The mission of the Chatham County Council on Aging is to promote and encourage independent living, and physical and mental wellness, through agency activities among the population over 60 years of age. They provide vital services to the elderly population of Chatham County, making their goal to improve their clients’ ability to live independently. The executive director for the Council is Dennis Streets.

Dennis Streets - Chatham Council On Aging

Dennis Streets has spent his career working in the field of aging and adult services, both in the public and private sectors. He retired as director of the North Carolina Division of Aging and Adult Services on April 30th and began work the next day as director of the Chatham County Council on Aging. Excited about this opportunity to lead the aging agency in his home county, Streets wants to build upon the strong local support that the Council on Aging enjoys. He is committed to assuring that the Council remains a good steward of its resources in working with community partners, volunteers, family caregivers and others to help seniors enjoy independent living and remain a vital contributor to the community. He encourages the entire Chatham community to become engaged with the Council in its promotion of opportunities for continued learning, physical and mental wellness, and social and civic engagement.

His other work experience included government service with the State Division of Social Services and the Triangle J Area Agency on Aging; time spent in the private sector as executive director of The Evergreens Inc., a non-profit long-term care organization, and as a professional relations representative with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina; and service as coordinator of Center for Aging Research and Educational Services at the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Social Work. He was co-editor of the book The Field of Adult Services, published in 1995.
