With the close of 2016 and the start of a new year, Blackman & Sloop has been busy serving the community, welcoming new team members, and celebrating our amazing staff! Here are just a few of the things we’ve been up to recently.
Blackman & Sloop welcomed two new team members at the end of 2016. Chris Elton joined the team on November 21, 2016 as a Senior Tax Associate and Patrick Haney began as a Senior Audit Associate on December 5, 2016.
The team at Blackman & Sloop participated in the CPA Day of Service by volunteering at the Chatham Council on Aging.
In November, Blackman & Sloop Managing Partner, Andrea Eason, attended the annual Big Brothers Big Sisters Big Night Ball. Candy Kirby and Sue Cannon volunteered at the event.
Blackman & Sloop staff also donated money to purchase gifts for the local Big Brothers Big Sisters organization. We enjoyed a fun night together wrapping the gifts and sharing in our first ever cookie exchange. Employees brought in their favorite homemade cookies and exchanged recipes. We learned that we have some talented bakers in our office. Our kitchen table looked like a bakery!
The firm hosted their annual holiday lunch at Khanki Restaurant. Those who attended enjoyed the showmanship of the chefs as well as the food. Team members received an RTIC cooler as appreciation for a job well done.
It was also another successful year for our Secret Santa event. Our Secret Santas did a great job of hiding their identity until our big reveal at the holiday lunch.
The firm also held it’s semi-annual team meeting the first week in January. We had a great time debuting the Blackman & Sloop ‘Shark Tank’. Team members had six months to come up with new ideas for our firm before presenting them to our partners, who acted as the “sharks”. Six ideas were presented and our “sharks” invested in five of them. Ideas ranged from creating a company cookbook to an on-site fitness center.
Happy birthday to Ben Johnson who celebrated his 40th birthday on December 22, 2016! We showed our love and had a little fun decorating his office before he arrived.
