In the Firm – February 2020

It is a new year and as we head into the thick of tax season our team is hard at work. Here are few of the things we have been up to since our last newsletter.

Promotions and New Hires:

We welcomed two new members to our team in January: Trish Distler in Tax, and Trey Kirby in audit.

Conferences/Seminars/Events:

Jen Lewis and Scott Hartman attended the AICPA’s Real Estate and Construction Conference in Nashville, TN Dec 5-6. The conference included topics to better serve the firm and clients as leaders and advisers, such as tax and accounting updates as well as many other audit and accounting topics as they relate to the real estate and construction industry.

Members of our staff have been participating in an eight-part webinar and discussion group series on subjects such as Increasing Innovative Thought and Developing Leadership Skills and wrapped up this “Maximize Your Career” series on January 14^th.

Volunteerism/Community Events:

Our annual Day of Service followed our Thanksgiving Potluck lunch on November 19^th. We headed to the North Carolina Botanical Garden and worked on garden maintenance and “edible” ornaments for the Garden’s Christmas tree.

We wrapped up our 100 Days of Service on December 6th by donating and wrapping toys to benefit the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Triangle. As a firm, we also donated items such as toiletries, gloves, hand warmers, etc and assembled “kits” to pass out to the homeless. Afterwards we had a cookie exchange.

On January 14^th, Adrienne Shoaf, Kari Bohning, and Katie Ledford attended the “Brewery and Board Games” event at Mordecai Beverage Co. in Raleigh. The event was part of the NCACPA Triangle Women’s Initiative.

Office Happenings:

From November 1 – 8, we held a firm-wide mini-walking challenge. Congratulations to Team Purple, who logged the most steps: Susan Puryear, Jen Lewis, Rachel Farmer, Andrea Eason, Katie Ledford and Christy Fasciana!

On November 6^th, we held a baby shower for John Duty and his wife Abby. On Dec. 16^th, John and Abby welcomed a daughter, Lillian June, who weighed 5 lbs, 10 oz and measured 19 inches long. Congratulations John and Abby!

During the month of December, we celebrated the holidays with our annual Holiday lunch and continued our Secret Santa tradition, giving gifts throughout the month of December and celebrating with our reveal party on Dec. 17th.
