What year did you join Blackman & Sloop?
The team welcomed me in 2020.
Where did you go to college?
I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Admin from East Carolina University & a Master of Accounting degree from North Carolina State University.
Why did you choose Blackman & Sloop?
I would say that we chose each other. I researched the firm prior to a career fair event at NCSU. They had values & mission statements that showed a desire to foster a positive environment. The firm took an interest in getting to know things that go beyond the resume, which in turn gave me the tools to make an informed decision about joining the team.
What are your favorite ways to practice positivity?
By making the most out of our infrequent and shortened interactions. It’s difficult to know how much social interaction a person is getting in these unique times. Therefore, I’m trying to move beyond the routine “How’s it going?”. Using unexpected & tailored language can evoke a much-needed smile & remind people that someone cares. My favorite thus far has been “How’s life & the pursuit of happiness?”.
This Holiday season we were much more actionable with our goodwill and cheer to all. We spent our Christmas Eve driving between the homes of our loved ones dropping off gifts at their front doors and offering a happy holiday from our car as they came to retrieve it. We all agreed that it was the best Christmas to date.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
About two miles down the road at a new swanky development. A very close second would be Japan. I enjoy exploring new experiences and Japan is very foreign to my U.S, Middle Eastern & European experiences. I’ve never been to Japan but have been enamored with the culture since I was a child. My wife & I are discussing plans to take a family Christmas trip to Disney Tokyo when conditions change. I’m also trying to sneak in a trip to the Gundam Factory in Yokohama while we are there. Anyhow, I’ve been learning 日本語 for about a year and am eager to test what I’ve learned.
